Senne Wijnen

PhD Candidate

My name is Senne Wijnen. I grew up in South Limburg and have always remained rooted in this region. After completing my bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University, I am now pursuing my PhD at Maastricht University and the Public Health Services South Limburg (GGD Zuid-Limburg). With my research, I hope to make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of others.

As a PhD candidate, I focus on two projects. The first project concerns long COVID, meaning having long-term symptoms following a COVID‑19 infection. In collaboration with colleagues, I work on the PRIME post‑COVID study: Prevalence, Risk Factors and Impact Evaluation of post‑COVID‑19 condition (long COVID) and the long‑term social, mental, and physical consequences for health. In addition, I am part of the Social Connection team, where we study a variety of questions related to social networks and health (behaviour). For instance, I am involved in the ConnectioN project, in which I examine social networks in combination with infection‑prevention behaviour and risk perception. My recommendation is to read all existing and future manuscripts from this team, because there are some exciting studies on the way!

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends or family, for example by having a drink on a terrace or playing board games together. I also love city trips, a day of shopping, festivals, baking, or watching a football match in the stadium. But I can just as easily enjoy a relaxed evening with a good book or nice series.
